Insurance + MVA Massage

Interested in having health insurance pay for your massage? Here’s what you need to know.

Cocoon accepts multiple health insurance carriers and MVA claims for massage appointments. Image showing illustration of a spine on a clipboard.

Prescriptions and Letters of Medical Necessity

All Regence BCBS and Motor Vehicle / Car Crash Claims require a prescription or Letter of Medical Necessity on file to cover Massage Therapy. Your doctor (MD, ND, DO) or chiropractor can provide this.

You are responsible for renewing these prescriptions when they expire.

Insurance does not pay for:

“Maintance” or relaxation massage. We will always need a primary complaint as mentioned in your referral.

No-show fees or missed time if you are running late. These must be paid out of pocket to your massage therapist.

Health Insurance

Carisa is in network with MODA (Connexus/Synergy), Providence and Regence BCBS.

Lise is in network with Providence and Regence BCBS.

Helpful hint: Don’t schedule a massage the same day your receive chiropractic, PT, OT or acupuncture treatments. We bill similar codes, and insurers will only pay for one treatment per day.

Do this before booking.

Call your insurance provider to verify your massage benefits. Ask these questions:

  • Is massage by a massage therapist covered by my plan?

  • Do they need to be “in network”?

  • Do I need preauthorization ?

Once your insurer has confirmed coverage and you know what to expect, go ahead and book your health insurance massage appointment.

Motor Vehicle Collisions (MVCs)

Did you recently get into a car crash or motor-vehicle accident and need clinical massage as part of your recovery? Your PIP/car insurance usually covers treatment with no out-of-pocket costs to you.

Physician’s referral required — please bring it with you to your first session.

Book your MVA massage appointment.

Keep billing simple.

  • Copays are collected the session.

  • We bill insurance companies at $200 per hour.

  • Patients are responsible for any claims not covered by their insurance.

Talk to your LMT if you have any questions.
